As with many historic cities, parking within the centre is limited and often congested during the Christmas period. Winchester has excellent rail and bus links to London, Southampton, Basingstoke, Reading, the Midlands and beyond. Where possible we strongly advise people to make sure of these facilities.
Winchester is just over an hour by direct train from Waterloo and is easily and quickly accessible from the following destinations: Basingstoke (20 minutes), Birmingham (2 hours, 20 minutes), Southampton (20 minutes), Poole (1 hour 5 minutes), Bournemouth (50 minutes), Portsmouth (1 hour), Brockenhurst, for the New Forest (30 minutes), Reading (30 minutes), London (1 hour 5 minutes).
If travelling by car is the only option, please make sure of the Park and Ride car parks which are located around the outskirts of the city. Winchester City Council operates an excellent and frequent service to all locations, whilst dropping off 2-3 minutes walk from the Cathedral. For more information please click here.
