The Dampney family have been producing homemade sloe gin for generations but Jonti Dampney has decided to take it to a whole new level. He started to experiment with other fruits and spirits. After getting favourable reports back from friends and family he decided to test the waters as to whether this might develop into a cottage industry. By happy coincidence, his godfather, Dan Tanner, runs a number of ‘pick your own’ fruit outlets in the New Forest which became a handy source of fruit. Berries have a very short shelf life - those which are unsold at a farmers’ market tended to be fed to Dan’s red deer herd at Burley. However, the deer had to make do with short rations, as the excess was being concocted into sumptuous fruit liqueurs in the Meon Valley. The business has now grown to such an extent that Sopley Farm produce now has to be supplemented with fruit from commercial growers and bulk spirit to our specification is sourced from The Thames Distillery in London. Varieties now available include Raspberry gin, rum and vodka , Rhubarb Gin and and Gooseberry Gin to name but a few. This year we are able to offer traditionally made sloe gin and damson gin and vodka. These have all been steeped for 9 months or more before being triple filtered. We are lucky to have willing team of hedgerow pickers to make the most of nature’s generosity. With roots intrinsically linked to local produce, crafted in a sustainable and environmentally conscious fashion. We also now offer a service whereby you can have your bottle engraved to mark a special occasion be it birthday or wedding. The 10ml bottles are the perfect size for stocking fillers for Christmas and can be purchased in trio gift packs as well. A magnum however may last the whole festive period or maybe just Christmas Day if you invite very thirsty family members for the day! Produce will be sent by courier or can be collected from East Meon by arrangement.
