Friends of Winchester Cathedral support one of the great traditions of Christmas at the Cathedral

If nearly every aspect of our lives has been changed by the Coronavirus, nothing gets in the way of Winchester Cathedral’s giant Christmas Tree. The heavy lifting began when cathedral staff set about bringing the massive tree inside the building and installing it beneath the great west window. (see pictures and video below)

 Winchester Cathedral Christmas Tree

Around 25Ft tall, the tree is always generously funded by the Friends of Winchester Cathedral which will be celebrating its 90th anniversary in the New Year.

During lockdown, the Friends have been organising special online Zoom talks, lectures and coffee mornings with members joining from all over the world. The talks have been attracting audiences of more than a hundred.

The Friends’ programme of online events will be continuing as long as Covid restrictions apply. Membership of the Friends starts at £25 a year and new members are always welcome. For further information, please contact Lucy Hutchin at the Friends Office, 2 The Close, Winchester, SO23 9LS
